Dr Katherine McQuillan is a psychiatrist who specialises in the management of psychiatric conditions arising in the context of medical and/or surgical conditions as well as managing general psychiatric conditions in adults. This includes the management of mood disorders (such as depression, anxiety, PTSD) and perceptual disturbances.

Katherine has a particular interest in the management of psychiatric conditions in people suffering from chronic pain and with neurological conditions.

Katherine completed her medical degree at the University of Sydney in 2003, following a Bachelor of Medical Science, with Honours Class I.  Katherine commenced psychiatric training in 2006, within the Central Sydney Area Health Service. Her Advanced Training in psychiatry focussed on Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, an aspect of psychiatry addressing conditions and their management that arise in the context of medical and surgical illnesses. In 2011, she was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.

On completion of her psychiatric training, Katherine worked as a Consultation-Liaison psychiatrist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Manly Hospital.

In 2012, Katherine moved to Melbourne and commenced working in the Pain and Palliative Care Department, at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute, and as a consultant psychiatrist at Precision Brain, Spine and Pain Centre. She continued working at Precision until returning to Sydney in 2021.

Katherine’s approach to patient care is with compassion and open communication, whilst relying on evidence-based management to provide education and a combination of therapies including medication and psychosocial strategies.
