Your Consultation

At Northern Pain Centre we understand the challenges of living with persistent pain, and appreciate that every situation is different. We care about our patients and we put you, front and centre of all we do. We look forward to welcoming you to our practice.

 

Before your visit

Our Pain Medicine Specialists are specialist doctors. Medicare require that you provide a doctor’s referral letter to qualify for your Medicare rebate for the consultation.

Once you have phoned our practice and booked an appointment time, we will send you an email containing important details.

In preparation for your appointment:

  • We require a copy of your doctor’s referral letter in order to book your appointment. Either email your referral to admin@northernpaincentre.com.au or fax it to (02) 9460 9230. Please do not send the referral by post.
  • Once we receive your doctor’s referral letter we will phone you to arrange your appointment.
  • Your pain history is very important. To maximise your time with our Specialist Doctors please ensure you send us ahead of your appointment:
    • X-rays & imaging
    • Radiology reports
    • Consultation reports
    • Test results
    • A complete list of current medications you are taking
    • Any other relevant documents
  • Please complete a Patient Information Form and either email it to admin@northernpaincentre.com.au or bring a copy with you to your appointment.

  

How to find us

Prior to your first visit, please familiarise yourself with the following directions to find our practice locations.

  • North Shore Private Hospital
    • North Shore Private Hospital, not to be confused with Royal North Shore Hospital, is located at 3 Westbourne Street, St Leonards. Click here for directions on how to get there.
    • Once you arrive at North Shore Private Hospital, enter the building via the ground floor, main entrance. In the reception area, take the lift to the 4th floor.
    • Turn right as you exit the lift and follow the corridor to Suite 6.
  • Norwest Business Park
  • Central Coast – Erina
    • Located in the Element Building, enter via Karalta Lane.

Your Initial Consultation

Please ensure that you have filled out your Patient Information Form and have gathered all of the documentation in the checklist above.

We ask you to arrive 15 minutes ahead of your scheduled appointment to enable us to collate your information in readiness for your consultation.

Your consultation will involve a thorough assessment of your pain followed by a detailed explanation and a discussion of the treatments available to suit your individual situation.

Our expert Pain Medicine Specialists will co-ordinate a multidisciplinary team working collaboratively to ensure you are provided with a comprehensive and individualised treatment plan. Working together, we aim to minimise your pain, maximise your function and improve your quality of life.

If you are unable to attend your appointment please inform us at least 24 hours ahead of your appointment to avoid incurring a cancellation fee.

Payment

Northern Pain Centre accepts cash, EFTPOS, Visa and Mastercard credit cards. Payment is due on the day of your consultation.

If your consultation is to be paid for by a Worker’s Compensation scheme or insurance company, we must have received written approval from the 3rd party prior to your consultation. Our capable administration staff will assist you with these arrangements.

 

Our Cancellation Policy

Northern Pain Centre uses automatic SMS appointment reminders. We may telephone you to ensure you are fully aware of the details of your appointment with us.

Please give us at least 24 hours notice if you will not be able to attend your appointment. We will happily assist you in rescheduling it.

It is Northern Pain Centre policy to charge a cancellation fee when patients do not attend their appointment without giving us 24 hours notice. This cancellation fee will range from the minimum of $50 to the maximum equivalent of your usual consultation fee. Our doctors and allied health providers reserve the right to determine the appropriate cancellation fee for the circumstances.

Kindly note, that any cancellation fees must be paid before further appointments can be scheduled.
